Last one for today... promise!

Since it's July 4th, and I stayed home tonight (car issues), I thought I'd post some photos that I took in 2006 at the Iwo Jima Memorial. These were shot with my Nikon D100, which has since been sold. Loved that camera - but gotta move on some time!

Enjoy! Hope everyone had/has a safe & happy 4th. Support our troops & their families!

New Point & Shoot Digital Camera

I always carry some sort of camera with me, and of course it has to be a point & shoot (or similar). My other cameras just weigh too much and they don't exactly fit in a purse.

I had the Canon PowerShot S500 (yeah, I know... I'm not a Canon shooter), but it took the compact flash cards. My husband bought it for me several years ago, so it only had 3x optical zoom. (Those of you shopping for digi-cams, pay attention to the optical zoom, NOT digital.) And with the upcoming Dave Matthews Band concert, I started looking and found the Nikon Coolpix L100. 10 megapixels with 15x optical zoom - sweet! I managed to get it for a little under $200, and now it's almost $300. I love when I get a good deal! I've been testing it out a little - the true test comes at the concert - but I am VERY happy with it! But, there's nothing manual about it, which was hard for me to get used to....

Here's some of those "test" shots. I've made no adjustments to these - straight off the card.

This is Homer, our little black pug. He's about 7-1/2 months old.

And this is Sitka, our 4-year old fawn pug, with Homer.

This is a Blackhawk helicopter that was at an orginazational day of one of Fort Belvoir's resident agencies. I took this using the full optical zoom.

I think I used the camera in Sports Continuous mode. It keeps firing - which I didn't know, because I never really use "modes" - because I have a sequence of shots of the band playing. This is Army Entertainment's band, USA Express. And they were pretty good!!

So, since it's July 4th, I thought I'd make the first picture post a patriotic one.

Welcome - A New Blog

Hi everyone! I'm just getting started with the Blogger blog for my website... I was using a different app, but I kept having problems with it and they kept doing updates. I don't have time to read through all that stuff and do updates! So, I decided to switch to Blogger, since I'm more familiar with it and really like it. Quick and easy! The only downside... it will be separate from my website domain, but I believe that's fixable. Definitely something I'll look at in the future... I just want to get it up & running. There will be a link in the blogroll back to my site, so no worries for now!

I haven't had time to update my site in almost 2 years - which is the amount of time I've been going to school full-time and working full-time. I am sorry to all my friends and fans out there who check my site periodically. Hopefully this blog will be a quicker way to periodically post new pictures, so that you can see I do still shoot! In fact, I've taken a Photoshop class (and will take another in the fall), so I can post some of the creations from that! I'll also post some of the shots I take while working as a photographer on Ft. Belvoir. Some I won't be able to (they are techinically the property of the U.S. Army), but some I have been given permission to post. I also add stuff to Flickr and Picasa some (Flickr the most), so you can see stuff there, too!

AND... I'll try to post some photos of past stuff that haven't made it to the website yet. I've been to Paris and Hawaii, with a few other spots in between. Still shoot an occasional wedding, too! So, I stay busy...

Hope you enjoy the new blog - let me know if you have suggestions, etc. =)
